Fly Tyers

My name is Bent Arild Mathiesen and I live far up in northern Norway in a city called Tromsø. I am 55 years old, married and have 2 children aged 27 and 31. I work as a fuel truck operator at the airport here in Tromsø.

I have been tying flies since I was 15. Mainly flies for trout, sea trout, mountain trout and grayling. I started tying classic salmon flies back in September 2015 and haven’t looked back since. I find it so exciting and challenging to tie.

I fish almost all year round, mainly for sea trout up here in the north. But also after brown trout and mountain trout. I haven’t fished for salmon in 10 years, but I intend to start again in the 2023 season

I’m really looking forward to the Danish fly festival. Tying flies among so many skilled tyers.

This will be my 3rd year at the Danish Fly Festival and I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new friends. if you are at the exhibition, come and find me for a chat. I am happy to answer questions.
