My name is Otto Blomqvist. I am a 37 year old man & father of two daughters from Pälkäne, Finland. I started fishing in the 1990 when I was very young boy. I lived those years until adulthood near by Jyväskylä, Finland.
Guided by my friends, I became interested in fly fishing and especially fly tying in 2002. At the same time, the drawing pen that had been firmly in my hand for 15 years naturally changed to a fly tying spigot.
I have participated as both a judge and a competitor in the Finnish fly tying championships and have tied flies abroad, e.g. at an invited guest event Atlantic Salmonfly Expo 2016 in Renton, USA. In addition, I have taught fly tying especially to children and young people in my child protection work and held numerous fly fishing and fly tying related courses around Finland.
Fly fishing has given me one more reason to spend time in nature. I spend almost all my free time in the forest, river or lake with my children, friends or just myself. To me, fly tying is more than imitation. It's a part of me, an opportunity to create something new, different. Before I pick up the spigot, I might sketch the fly for several days, for example by drawing on paper.
It's a pleasure to arrive at the Danish Fly Festival this year and to be able to talk with familiar and new people.
See you at the fair!
